SUMMARY:Workshop: The Future of European Seaweed Breeding
DESCRIPTION:Discover the Future of European Seaweed Breeding \nEuropean farming of seaweed is at an early stage\, and seaweed is still seen as a novel crop with many challenges across the entire supply chain. Yet\, it is a crop that is recognised within Europe and worldwide for its contribution to regenerative aquaculture and the development of products and services that support many of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.  \nReducing the cost of production by increasing crop productivity is one of the most important challenges facing the industry today. As with terrestrial agriculture of every other cultivated crop\, seaweed productivity could also be boosted through better utilisation of genetic resources through strain development. \nJoin us at this Future of European Seaweed Breeding workshop to learn about the efforts being made on strain selection of Saccharina and Ulva through two EU-funded projects\, Blue Bio Boost and SeaMark. \nThe workshop also provides space for in-depth stakeholder discussions so that these views can be captured to ensure industry development is fit for purpose. \nRegister now to be part of the conversation.

SUMMARY:SeaMark Final Conference: Demonstrating Scalable\, Investable Seaweed Value Chains Providing Informed Guidance for Policymakers
DESCRIPTION:Go to the event page to register now. Spots are limited!  \nEurope’s blue bioeconomy has potential. But scaling the seaweed sector is still a challenge. \nEurope currently imports the vast majority of its seaweed\, while demand is rapidly growing across food\, feed\, and biomaterials. Without scaling domestic production and processing\, that gap will only widen. \nHigh costs\, fragmented value chains\, and limited processing capacity continue to hold the European sector back. Innovation exists\, but market uptake is still catching up. \nFor the past four years\, SeaMark has been working to change that. Bringing together 25 partners\, the project focused on building scalable\, investable seaweed value chains across food\, feed\, packaging\, cosmetics\, and biomaterials. \nThis event brings together stakeholders and policymakers to showcase key results and innovations\, but also highlights bottlenecks to the further development of the European seaweed industry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that the event will take place on 20 May 2026\, from 12:30 to 18:00 local time (EEST / UTC+3). It is scheduled one day ahead of the European Maritime Days\, which will also be held in Limassol\, Cyprus. \n\nThe agenda:  \n \nGo to the event page to register now. Spots are limited!
